so as to do sth :为了做某事(with the intention of doing sth)
eg:I left a message so as to be sure of contacting her.
我留下张条子,确保能联络到她.
B,D应该都是不对的,因为that后应跟句子,而原文中后面的be late for his class 没有主语,不能构成完整句子,所以排除.

光看词典上的解释,分不出它和as to do sth 有什么区别.
