  不愿意吃带粘汁的菜肴;忌用味精调味;也不吃狗肉.口味不喜欢太咸,爱甜、酸、微辣味,对烧、煮、蒸、烙、焗和烘烤等烹调方法制作的菜肴偏爱.
  他们普遍喜爱喝茶,尤为妇女嗜茶成癖.“下午茶”几乎成为英国人的一种必不可少的生活习惯,即使遇上开会,有的也要暂时休会而饮“下午茶”.不喝清茶,要在杯里倒上冷牛奶或鲜柠檬,加点糖、再倒茶制成奶茶或柠檬茶.如果先倒茶后倒牛奶会被认为缺乏教养.他们还喜欢喝威士忌、苏打水,喝葡萄酒和香槟酒,有时还喝啤酒和烈性酒,彼此间不劝酒.

  英国是绅士之国,讲究文明礼貌,注重修养.同时也要求别人对自己有礼貌.注意衣着打扮,什么场合穿什么服饰都有一定惯例.见面时对尊长、上级和不熟悉的人用尊称,并在对方姓名前面加上职称、衔称或先生、女士、夫人、小姐等称呼.亲友和熟人之间常用呢称.初次相识的人相互握手,微笑并说:“您好!”在大庭广众之下,人们一般不行拥抱礼,男女之间除热恋情侣外一般不手拉手走路.
  英国人不轻易动感情或表态.他们认为夸夸其谈是缺乏教养的,认为自吹自擂是低级趣味的.人们交往时常用“请”、“对不起”、“谢谢”等礼貌用语,即使家庭成员间也一样.
  对英国人称呼“英国人”是不愿意接受的.因为“英国人”原意是“英格兰人”,而你接待的宾客,可能是英格兰人、威尔士人或北爱尔兰人,而“不列颠”这个称呼则能让所有的英国人都能感到满意.
  忌讳用人像、大象、孔雀作服饰图案和商品装潢.他们认为大象是愚笨的,孔雀是淫鸟、祸鸟,连孔雀开屏也被认为是自我吹嘘和炫耀.忌讳“13”这个数字.还忌讳“3”这个数字,忌讳用同一根火柴给第3个人点烟.和英国人坐着谈话忌讳两腿张得过宽,更不能跷起二郎腿.如果站着谈话不能把手插入衣袋.忌讳当着他们的面耳语和拍打肩背,忌讳有人用手捂着嘴看着他们笑,认为这是嘲笑人的举止.忌讳送人百合花,他们认为百合花意味着死亡.
